Our School - Health

The school shares a Community Health Nurse with North Tom Price Primary, Paraburdoo Primary and with Tom Price Senior High School. They conduct school entry screening assessments, vaccination programs and provide specialist health advice to teachers and children. For more information on the role of our Community Health Nurse please click on the link or contact your local community health service on 9159 5230.

If your child is due or overdue for immunisations, please contact your local community health service to get your child vaccinated. Alternatively, speak to your school health nurse, AMS or local GP.

Parents or legal guardians who make a conscious informed decision not to immunise their child should note that in the case of a Measles or Pertussis (Whooping Cough) outbreak, Western Australian schools are required by the Department of Health to exclude students from school who have not received the appropriate vaccination.

Children who injure themselves or who fall ill during the course of the school day are initially attended to in the office. The school does not have a sick bay. Parents WILL be contacted if we believe the child should not remain at school. Parents are asked to ensure that emergency contact numbers are accurately maintained at all times.

Children who are ill should not be permitted to go to school until they are fully recovered. Please note that in some cases that involve infectious diseases exclusion from school is a requirement. Should this be necessary, the school will advise you of the period of exclusion.

If medication is to be taken at school, written instructions must be issued and prior approval received from the Administration. For medical conditions such as Asthma, medical action plans need to be kept for individual students. Parent support is required to keep these up to date and provide medication.
