Curriculum - HASS

Students from PP to Year Six at Tom Price Primary School, receive a 60 minute Humanities and Social Science (HASS) lesson per week.

The Science program encompasses all aspects of the WA set curriculum in the areas of:

PP – Year 2 Geography and History.

Year 3 & 4 Geography, History and Civics & Citizenship.

Year 5 & 6 Geography, History, Civics & Citizenship and Economics.

Students have the opportunity to explore, and question about features of our environment including why they are there and how we can change or keep them there.

There is an emphasis for students to develop the necessary key skills and techniques appropriate to using an inquiry approach to HASS.

Where possible as much of the content will include local content from the community to increase the relevancy of the curriculum to the students.

Where appropriate, the HASS program provides cross-curricular links to Math, English and Art.

HASS is an essential part of our learning in the community and is used by the community to develop themselves for the future.

As part of the program events that occur during the year are a basis for incidental teaching. These include NAIDOC Day, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, Sorry Day, Harmony Day, WA Foundation, Multicultural Diversity Day and  Australia Day.
