Curriculum - The Arts

Students from Year One to Year Six at Tom Price Primary School, receive a 60 minute Art lesson per week in a very well-resourced Art room with a Visual Art/Music specialist.

The Visual Arts program encompasses the art methods of drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, modelling, and construction where all students have the equal opportunity to explore, experiment, create and make art works. The Music program in its founding year is teaching students music and performance skills through Ukulele.

The emphasis is to provide students with key skills and techniques appropriate to each method as well as having fun creating their own unique art and performance work.

Where appropriate, the Arts program provides cross-curricular links to Math, English, Science and History, generating strong cultural, social and educational bonds.

Art and Music history and its relevance to our society, both local and globally, is examined during the lesson as well as investigating art and music created from different cultures around the world. Students are encouraged to give their thoughts, beliefs, ideas and opinions about art works created by artists using appropriate arts terminology.

Art Exhibitions

At Tom Price Primary School the Art rooms hosts various exhibitions through the year. We run an Art Cafe, exhibitions and work towards beautifying the school with whole school murals and other installations such as Mosaic Walls and Garden Sculptures. Each year a different idea and art method will in focus where students work in smaller groups extending their arts knowledge further. Students have a wonderful experience exhibiting their art works for their parents and visitors to observe. Exhibiting your work is an important part of creating artworks and fosters self-esteem.

Artists in Schools

Where possible the arts program is supported by visiting workshops focusing in on various aspects of the Arts curriculum. 2017 saw our program engage in a whole term Dance project and this year we have been working with Ukulele musicians.
